In the eighties, Chrysler made full-sized wagons obsolete by launching its successful front-wheel drive minivan line. By the end of the decade, GM really felt the need catch up with its family car offerings, and so the futuristic APV trio was launched, including the Chevy Lumina APV, the more aggressive Pontiac Trans Sport, and the somewhat luxurious Oldsmobile Silhouette.

While GM's front-wheel drive minivans were down on power and gears compared to the Chryslers, they made up for it with their exterior styling, extremely versatile eight-seater interiors, army of cupholders, low road noise and huge UV-bouncing glass surfaces.

GM also made sure you could mix and match parts all day long, given how all APVs were built on the same steel spaceframe, covered in bonded plastic body panels.

But did Dick Ruzzin really design "the most futuristic-looking vehicle ever produced by Detroit?" I'll leave that up to you.
