  To determine which models are likely to be the most dependable in the future, J.D. Power conducts annual surveys of thousands of new- and used-car owners. Based on the information collected in the Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS) and Initial Quality Study (IQS), the company calculates Power Circle Ratings that predict how reliable a model might be.
  
  Listed on the pages that follow, in alphabetical order and according to J.D. Power, are the top-rated coupes and convertibles for predicted reliability that are priced at over $50,000. Do note that the individual ratings are reflective of each model’s likely reliability in comparison with competitors in the same market segment, and are not intended for cross-comparison between segments.

• 2016 Cadillac ELR

  Cadillac’s stylish extended-range electric car, the ELR, receives a new drivetrain for 2016, improving power output. Engineers also upgraded the car’s driving dynamics, enhanced the infotainment system, and offered a new Performance package. Alas, the changes could not save the ELR, and this 4-passenger coupe has gone out of production.

  Built on a different platform than the E-Class sedan and station wagon, the coupe and convertible versions are smaller than their stablemates. They are also among the handful of Mercedes-Benz models that are unavailable in performance-tuned AMG trim, leaving a choice between turbocharged 6-cylinder or 8-cylinder engines.
