Nagai earns first career Trans Am pole at Laguna Seca

Michelle Nagai in the No. 72 Nagai Racing/Berkeley Jet Drive Chevrolet Camaro claimed her first Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli Western Championship Pole Award of 2024 Friday at Laguna Seca, laying down a blazing lap time of 1m26.680s on the newly-paved surface.

Just behind Nagai was the fastest CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series qualifier Barry Boes in his No. 32 Accio Data/TRB Autosport Ford Mustang with a time of 1m27.949s. For the third time this season, David Hampton was the quickest GT car in his No. 14 AR Motorsports Porsche Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport at 1m33.943s. Steve Goldman in the No. 13 LIG Racing Chevrolet Corvette was fast in the TA class with a time of 1m36.730s.

“The weekend has actually gone really well,” said Nagai. “We’ve been the fast car in two out of three sessions. We just put it on pole; my first pole award with the Chris Evans Race Cars team in the XGT class. Pretty incredible; I’m pretty stoked, to say the least, right? Tomorrow, rain or shine, we’re going to be out there. We’re going to give it our all, for sure. We’re praying for sunshine; we don’t want rain. I’m a fair weather racer, let’s face it. We’re just going to deal with what’s dealt to us.”

Race one of the Mission Foods Laguna Seca SpeedTour will be contested Satirday at 12:30 p.m. PT.
