2016 Hyundai Elantra GT Video

The Elantra GT may share its name with Hyundai's best-selling compact sedan--but in reality, it's a different vehicle, one that comes originally from Europe. And that's why it attracts competition from cars like the VW Golf and Ford Focus.

This year, the Elantra GT gets a few updates as it faces a brand-new Golf and the fierce upcoming Focus RS.

From the outside, the Elantra GT hasn't changed much. The grille has grown bigger--it dips almost to the ground--and at the rear, there are available LED taillights. Sharp new 17-inch alloy wheels are available, too.

Inside, the Elantra GT adds an available BlueLink infotainment system. It includes navigation, HD Radio, and Apple Siri integration. Ventilated front seats are a new option--and Hyundai says they're the first in the class--and heated rear seats are available as well. Rounding out the tech update is an available remote start system with climate control and destination search powered by Google.

Hatchbacks are all about versatility and the Elantra GT delivers with 23 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats up, and 51 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats down. That bests the Mazda 3 and bests the Focus hatchback’s maximum cargo capacity with the rear seats folded.

Powering the 2016 Elantra GT is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine rated at 173 horsepower and 154 pound-feet of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels through either a six-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission. EPA gas mileage estimates come in at 24 miles per gallon city, 33 miles per gallon highway.

The updated 2016 Hyundai Elantra GT goes on sale in March starting from $18,800.
