Jaguar Divulges Details on New 2017 XE AWD Compact Sport Sedan

Jaguar displayed at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show an updated entry-level XE compact premium sport sedan for 2017 that will be available in U.S. dealer showrooms next spring.

The updated 2017 XE model offers an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system for better traction and features a host of more advanced handling and technology features, including a new infotainment system. The smaller XE has a lower starting price than many Jaguar models—in the $35,000 range, according to the automaker.

Built on a new global platform that uses aluminum, the XE shares its architecture with the XF midsize premium sedan and the upcoming F-Pace midsize premium SUV. It uses a torque-on-demand AWD system and has Jaguar’s Adaptive Surface Response system developed by stablemate Land Rover to distinguish between different types of road surfaces.

Engine options for the new XE feature a first-time diesel for North America and include: a 3-liter, 6-cylinder turbocharged engine that produces 340 horsepower; 2-liter, 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that generates 240 horsepower; and the 2-liter, 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine with 180 horsepower. All three are mated with 8-speed automatic transmissions.

New technology in the 2017 XE includes Jaguar’s InControl infotainment system with a 10.2-in. touch screen, faster response times, and intelligent navigation. A Wi-Fi hotspot for as many as 8 devices and an Apple Watch app to remotely check fuel level, lock and unlock the car, and start the engine are included along with a new 17-speaker premium audio system.

The XE, which will be offered in five trim levels, comes equipped with an impressive range of advanced driver-assistance systems that gain a lane-keeping and lane-departure warning system, adaptive speed limiter, and a monitor to determine if a driver is fatigued.
