McLaren P1 GTR Rendering Revealed Ahead Of Pebble Beach Debut

Motor Authority

We’ve known since early June that McLaren’s P1 GTR would deliver 986 horsepower of track-focused fury. Yesterday, an image purporting to be an official rendering from a customer email surfaced, showing the car’s even more extreme design. Today, that image was officially released in high-resolution form.

The new car is due to debut at the 2014 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance on August 15, but production of the P1 GTR won't start until June 2015, when the last of the 375 P1 road cars is built. Included with the P1 GTR will be a comprehensive set of driver training, events, and trackside support.

As for what we can see in the rendering, the design's focus appears to be at the rear of the car, where a monstrous diffuser and gigantic wing are operating in concert to increase downforce under the car. The exhaust outlets have likewise been extended to clear the diffuser, and the sides appear to be widened to allow for wider wheels.

What other changes might be in store for the P1 GTR? Racing slicks are expected to come standard, and just like the rear, the front of the car is likely to get more aggressive aerodynamic work. All of which will help the P1 GTR better take advantage of the 83 extra horsepower on tap.

The P1 GTR will only be offered to existing P1 customers, however, and its price tag will likely trip the $3.2 million mark—going perhaps as high as $3.4 million. But, as always, with cars like these, if you have to ask how much it costs, you simply can’t afford it.
