In surveying thousands of new-vehicle owners each year, J.D. Power gathers information about the quality of new cars, trucks, SUVs, and vans after the first 90 days of ownership. This data is compiled in the annual J.D. Power Initial Quality StudySM (IQS), and forms the basis for Power Circle Ratings, consumer-friendly representations of the information that are designed to help car buyers make better decisions.

This Top-Rated 2014 Convertibles guide includes those models that receive an overall Initial Quality Power Circle Rating of 4, 4.5, or 5 for their performance in the 2014 IQS. They are listed in alphabetical order.

2014 BMW 4 Series

Replacing the BMW 3 Series convertible, the BMW 4 Series convertible is new for 2014, based on the 4 Series coupe but equipped with a power-retractable folding hardtop that stacks in the trunk. Buyers choose between a turbocharged 4-cylinder and a turbocharged 6-cylinder engine, each offered only with an automatic transmission. BMW's xDrive all-wheel-drive system is an option, replacing the standard rear-drive setup.

2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

With the soft convertible top stowed, the E-Class Cabriolet's exclusive AirCap system deploys to push airflow up and over the cabin in order to reduce wind buffeting.

2014 Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class

2014 Porsche 911

Porsche added a 911 Turbo Cabriolet to the lineup this year, bringing the number of open-air 911 models to six. It makes 120 more horsepower than the Carrera S and 4S models, good for a 0-to-60 mph time of 3 seconds by Porsche's stopwatch.
