Toyota Recalls 2006-2011 Lexus Models To Fix Potential Fire Hazard; 422,509 Vehicles Affected

Toyota has announced an extensive recall of Lexus vehicles from the 2006 to 2011 model years. According to a bulletin from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (PDF) the recall is meant to fix a potential leak in the fuel system, which could cause the vehicles to catch fire.

The problem stems from the plating used to protect elements of the fuel system from corrosion. It appears that remnants of that plating can clog a connector that joins the fuel delivery pipe to the fuel pressure sensor.

That clog, in turn, can cause fuel to build up and leak from the connection. And wherever fuel leaks, there's an increased risk of fire.
