For most of the history of the franchise, Forza Motorsport games came out every two years. That ended with Forza Motorsport 7, which came out in 2017 and was not followed up with another numbered entry. That changes next Spring, when the flagship Forza series returns.

The new game will be called, simply, Forza Motorsport. The lack of a number is very intentional. Since FM7, the Xbox business model has switched from primarily direct game sales to primarily bundling games into the Xbox Game Pass subscription service. The new name reflects what seems to be a more permanent Forza, one that Motorsport series director Dan Greenawalt calls "a platform inside of Game Pass" in an interview with GQ.

In the reveal trailer, you can see a wide variety of road cars, modern sports car racers, and vintage racers of all types fighting around tracks like Laguna Seca, the new-to-Forza Kyalami Circuit, and the returning Maple Valley Forza original circuit. The trailer showcases both a completely rebuilt damage model and a day-into-night cycle that developer Turn 10 Studios says will be available on every track. Those dynamic tracks also include "rubbering-in" effects, ambient temperature changes, and weather, all of which combine to replicate how a racing track changes over the course of a race.
