While Porsche has plenty of tasty twin-turbocharged 991.2 variants to choose from in 2017, the work never stops. And as the factory gets ready to unveil the updated 992 generation sometime next year, we've just gotten an early peak at what this next-gen 911 will throw at us.

Based on what we can see on these prototypes, the most important changes should include a wider body even on two-wheel drive variants, and an active spoiler that now spans the entire width of the car, indicating a whole lot more downforce. Then again, these mules might be decoys to fool us all.

Either way, the 992 will certainly be built on Porsche's new modular platform, which will also be used (in modified mid-engine form) in the Audi R8 and eventually a Lamborghini. And with Porsche putting the hybrid 911 on hold, the 992 should be lighter, stiffer, faster, and everything you would expect from a turbocharged 911.
