Colorado's National Speedway holds one-lap "circle drag" racing for production cars around its short oval. These races (which are free to enter, per the track website) draw interests from all sorts of car owners, from Teslas to Corvettes. This week, none of them were a match for the quick launches and torque vectoring corner advantages of a stock-looking Golf R.

Here it is, legendarily titled "The Night a VW Golf R Wrecked The Field(Circle Drags) @ Colorado National Speedway 2022," by uploader NWfan2.

Our hero starts off against what appears to be a lightly-modified Scion tC. No problem for the Golf. A Tesla represents a bigger issue, especially off the line, but our Golf R driver still catches him by turn 3 and passes on the outside into turn 4. A pick-up truck beats the Golf off the line, but the driver can't even hold a lead through turn 2.

That's when things get interesting.

Yes, someone brought their vintage Skyline GT-R to the local circle drag night. It, too, could hardly even keep up with the Golf. That left just a C4 Corvette to beat, but a great launch was not enough for the Corvette to lead at any point. The Golf R driver was crowned champion, all in a day's work for nearly-$50,000 hatchback. For the driver's sake, let's hope he rolled up his windows and shifted when the car told him to.
