To promote the fact that the all-new 2019 Nissan Altima is available with all-wheel drive for the first time ever, Nissan has created a one-off Altima for the Montreal auto show called the Altima-te AWD. What sets this Altima sedan apart from all of the regular ones? It's pretty obvious once you look at the photos: It has heavy-duty snow tracks in place of the regular wheels and tires.

Nissan says that this betracked one-off proves that the regular Altima "has the ability to conquer the harshest weather environments" thanks to the aforementioned all-wheel-drive system. We think it really just proves how awesome snow tracks are when you put them on an everyday car. This isn't even the first time that Nissan has stuck a set of tracks onto one of its regular models. The brand has previously fitted tracks to the Pathfinder and Murano, the Rogue, and even the 370Z roadster, which make up what Nissan calls its Warrior series of vehicles.

The Altima-te was created by Motorsports in Action (MIA), a Quebec-based company that fields racing entries in both the Nissan Micra Cup (with Nissan Micras, obviously) and in IMSA with McLaren 570S GT4 race cars. The tracks are 48 inches long, 30 inches tall, and 15 inches wide, necessitating massively wide custom fender flares that increase the Altima-te's total width by 14 inches compared with a regular Altima. The car's ride height has been raised by three inches, too, with modified suspension components and changes to the chassis. MIA says creating the fenders alone took more than 150 hours of labor, with the entire car requiring 250 hours.

The Altima-te will be on display at the Montreal auto show this month before making another appearance at the Toronto auto show in February. The Canadian locales for the wild one-off makes sense, as the Altima is available only with all-wheel drive in Canada-there are no base front-wheel-drive models offered as they are in the United States, nor is the new VC-Turbo four-cylinder on offer.
