Nissan Brings Back the Wacky BladeGlider Concept, This Time With Drift Mode

From Road & Track

Nissan originally showed us the BladeGlider concept all the way back in 2013, billing it as a revolutionary electric sports car. And with its incredibly narrow front track and three-seat design, it was certainly different. But while the initial concept never made it to production, the idea didn't die. Now it's back, looking sleeker than ever.

The new BladeGlider concept isn't necessarily headed for production immediately, but it's a working prototype that looks much more production-ready than the initial daydream of 2013. Each rear wheel is powered by its own electric motor, making a combined 268 horsepower and 521 lb.-ft. of torque. That's enough to hit 60 mph in less than five seconds and muscle to a top speed of at least 115 mph.

Understeer? Forget it. Nissan says the BladeGlider's torque-vectoring abilities eliminate that. In fact, it also has a drift mode for real tire-smoking fun.

It's certainly a unique car, and it looks like it would be a lot of fun. Between this and the similarly-proportioned Deltawing street car concept, the potential future of the automobile is looking strange and wonderful.
