This Nissan GT-R-Powered Ford Focus Hillclimb Car Is a 4WD Speed Machine
The Pikes Peak International hillclimb is known for bringing out some of the wildest time-attack race cars on the planet. Thanks to its extreme elevation, changing surface, and fast sweeping corners, competing cars have to be fully equipped to lay down a respectable time. This latest Ford Focus takes Pikes Peak racing to a whole new level.
Built in a collaboration between noted Targa Tasmania driver Tony Quinn and Australian race shop Pace Innovations, this tube-frame Ford has everything necessary to take the win at Pikes Peak later this year. The car is loosely based on the Focus hatch, sharing only the windshield and A-pillars with the production car.
Other than that, the car is all bespoke. Sitting behind the cockpit is a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 from a Nissan GT-R, mated to a four-wheel-drive system, along with some serious-looking race suspension. Up front sits a comically large splitter, accompanied by fender flares all around.
High Performance Academy was tasked with tuning the custom Focus before the big race, and put up a testing video for us all to enjoy. We can't wait to see this car hit the hill.
