This Is Nissan's Wild New GT-R-Powered Race Car
Officially dubbed the "Nissan Onroak DPi," the third and final member of IMSA's brand-new Daytona Prototype international formula was shown Wednesday during its initial test at Florida's Sebring International Raceway.
The 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6-powered prototype, constructed by Onroak Automotive in France in partnership with the Japanese manufacturer and the American Tequila Patron ESM team, will form the basis of a two-car DPi effort in IMSA's WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
Its main opposition, Cadillac's DPi-V.R and Mazda's RT24-P, have been testing for more than a month, leaving Nissan, Onroak and ESM to make up ground before the 2017 season gets underway on Jan. 28-29 at the Rolex 24 at Daytona.
Sporting a Nissan GT-R-derived engine and custom bodywork attached to Onroak's base Ligier JS P217 chassis, the Nissan Onroak DPi continue logging miles at Sebring before its heads to Daytona for an official unveiling during the Roar Before the 24 test at Daytona from Jan. 6-8.
