Yahoo Autos This Is Not a Good Way to Remove Your Car's Engine
There's a right way and a wrong way to do everything. Say you've got an old Jeep with a tired engine, and you need that engine out of there. If you were trying to do the job the wrong way, it doesn't get any more wrong than "wrap a strap around the engine, tie it to a tree, and drive away at 60 mph." And yet, we can't stop watching the carnage.
This automotive act of strappado comes to us from, of course, YouTube. The folks behind BleepinJeep are, basically, taking a worn down ZJ-generation Jeep Grand Cherokee and subjecting it to all kinds of dangers and horrors. In this episode, they endeavored to see whether you could yank an engine out of a moving car with the proper application of strap and speed. It didn't quite work out that way, as you can see here (fast-forward to 3:40 to skip the explanation and see the carnage). And before you go trying to replicate this madcap experiment on your own, please note that there was nobody in the car during the engine pull-the Jeep was basically driving itself, with a department store mannequin in the driver's seat.

Hilariously, the final result isn't what anybody even expected. Noted nerd Jason Fenske of Engineering Explained ran through all the numbers before the strap pull was attempted, and the math showed that the engine would get yanked clean out of the rig, while the body kept hurtling forward. Yes, sometimes even Fenske gets it wrong:
