Yahoo Autos Now's Your Chance to Own the V12-Swapped Ferrari 308 of Your Dreams
The Ferrari 308 seems to have finally come full-circle for classic car buyers. The wedge-shaped exotics have gone from surprisingly affordable mid-engine sports cars to legitimately desirable classics. This nicely kept example seems to fit the bill for the discerning collector, except for one thing: It has a V12 under the hood.
The Ferrari 308 GTS QV was originally fitted with a 2.9-liter V8 that made around 240 horsepower. The original owner of this blue-over-white 308 decided its stock power wasn't enough, and commissioned a Ferrari dealership tech named Nigel Hudson to fit a 4.8-liter V12 from a Ferrari 400 into the tight engine bay.
Judging by the pictures, the swap-completed in the late 1980s-seems to be cleanly executed. Since the 308 used a transverse layout, the V12 has to line up perpendicular to the rest of the car, making for an impressively tight-fitting sight.
The car-known as "Nigel's Flyer"-was recently pulled out of a 10-year storage stint, and sent back to Nigel Hudson-the very same tech, to complete a mechanical restoration on the car. According to the listing, only four V12-swapped 308s exist.
The V12 308 will be auctioned by Silverstone Auctions as part of its May 2017 sale with an estimate of £50,000 - 60,000, or $64,025 - 76,830 in American dollars. Register while you can, because we have a feeling this car will go fast.
