Jeep announced Wednesday it's giving its all-important Wrangler SUV a handful of big updates for the 2024 model year, including a new rear axle design and an available factory-installed winch for Rubicon models.

There are no fewer than eight different Wrangler models to choose from for 2024, including two new trims: Sport S 4xe and Rubicon X. The Sport S 4xe mates the second-cheapest Wrangler model with the company's excellent plug-in hybrid powertrain, which uses a 2.0-liter turbo inline-four and two electric motors to make 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque.

Think of the Rubicon X as a "Rubicon Plus." It gets everything from the standard Rubicon—electronic sway bar disconnects, front and rear locking differentials, a part-time transfer case with a 4-low setting—and adds 12-way power front seats, navigation, heated seats, a heated steering wheel, steel bumpers, an integrated off-road camera, body-colored fender flares and hardtop, and 35-inch tires (if you option the automatic).

Speaking of Rubicon, Jeep's given the off-road-special Wrangler trim a number of improvements, regardless of which trim you choose. The biggest is a new Dana 44 HD full-float rear axle design, which separates the wheel hub assembly from the axle shaft. That means the weight of the vehicle now rests on the axle tube rather than the axle itself. Not only is this better for off-roading, but it allows the Wrangler Rubicon to tow more: a maximum of 5000 pounds on Rubicons equipped with the 2.0-liter turbo four or 3.6-liter V-6 models. It also means the Wrangler Rubicon can better handle third-party upsized tires without any additional upgrades.

Also new for the 2024 Wrangler Rubicon is an available factory-installed Warn winch. It comes mounted inside a steel front bumper with removable end caps, rated at 8000 pounds. Additionally, there's LED exterior lighting, a trailering package, and a handful of auxiliary switches to wire up your aftermarket equipment.

The Rubicon isn't the only Wrangler trim getting upgrades for 2024. The Wrangler Willys now gets a rear-locking differential, steel rock rails, a trailering package, and 33-inch tires as standard. Wrangler High Altitude models get thicker glass, power seats, Nappa leather seats, and a power-folding soft top roof.

Thankfully the 6.4-liter V-8-powered Rubicon 392 makes a return for 2024. It's making the same 470 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque as before, but now includes 35-inch wheels, thicker glass, additional sound-deadening, heated seats, a heated steering wheel, an off-road camera, and 12-way power front seats.

The 2024 Jeep Wrangler's exterior has been given a revamp too, with a reworked grille design and a windshield-integrated radio antenna. There are 10 different wheel designs, 10 exterior colors, two body styles, and multiple roof styles to choose from, allowing for endless customization options. Inside you'll find a new standard 12.3-inch touchscreen packed with Stellantis' new Uconnect 5 infotainment system. There's standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, alongside optional navigation.

Jeep has yet to release pricing for the 2024 Wrangler, though we expect to start somewhere in the mid-$30,000 range. Expect deliveries to begin later this year.
