Louisville Metro Police officer Nickolas Wilt continues to make progress after being transferred to Frazier Rehab on May 10, one month after being shot while responding to a shooting at Old National Bank.

After just a week at the rehabilitation facility, a Louisville Metro Foundation post on Facebook said Wilt "has shown signs of improvement" and is working tirelessly towards getting better. But, even though he's condition "is on the right track" he still has a long way to go in his recovery.

"On behalf of Officer Wilt and our family, we would like to express our deepest gratitude for the outpouring of prayers and support he has received. The continuous support from the community has been instrumental in Officer Wilt's journey, and we are immensely proud of him," the foundation said.

Wilt, 26, was shot in the head April 10 while responding to a mass shooting at Old National Bank with his training officer, Cory Galloway. Galloway killed the gunman minutes after Wilt was shot outside the East Main Street bank.

Since then, Wilt has undergone brain surgery, battled pneumonia − a common condition for patients placed on a ventilator ‒ and other infections.

Wilt, who graduated from the police academy on March 31, was one of the eight people injured in the shooting.

Five people were killed at the bank – Josh Barrick, 40; Deana Eckert, 57; Tommy Elliott, 63; Juliana Farmer, 45; and Jim Tutt Jr., 64. – along with the gunman.
