Ohio Snowmobiles Heist Came With Twists And Turns

It seems like people will steal just about anything these days, including a trailer loaded full of snowmobiles. Actually, if you were to go snowmobile shopping lately you’d understand why they’re hot theft targets. But the lengths a guy in Ohio went to steal a trailer full of them is pretty crazy to the point we’re wondering if drug use or some other form of intoxication was involved.

Watch a man hang off the back of a semi-truck on the freeway, then jump.

The heist went down in Forest Park, Ohio back early on the morning of November 25. Someone snuck into a local industrial complex where storage sheds contain all sorts of equipment, coming out with a truck hitched to a trailer loaded with snowmobiles, reports WLWT.

In what sure sounds like an act of desperation or intoxication, the suspect used the truck to knock down the gate to the secure complex. Timothy Moss, who works at the complex, told a reporter he jumped in a vehicle and pursued the suspect down I-275.

In a flash, the thief jack knifed the truck and trailer and Moss said he just “turned around and started going backward and into oncoming traffic.” Like we said, sounds like the suspect was desperate and/or intoxicated to risk his life like that for some snowmobiles. They’re expensive these days but wow.

The whole scene sounds like utter chaos. Afterward, police came to check out the storage shed where the truck and trailer were stored. A police officer was perplexed about how the suspect got inside since the locks didn’t look to be tampered with. However, walking around the back of the structure it was apparent the guy cut a hole in the wall, dug through the insulation, and climbed inside the building.

Let this be a lesson that while you can have all kinds of fancy locks, you should also have plenty of cameras with motion alerts since people can make their own door.

As police told WLWT, it sounds like the suspect knew what was inside the building so you might say this was an inside job of sorts, maybe. Hopefully the snowmobiles, trailer, and truck are recovered in good condition. Just remember, if you have outdoor toys like these they’re valuable and thieves want them, so take some extra steps to secure your stuff.
