How To Make an Old Monte Carlo SS Actually Handle

From Road & Track

On paper, the 1984 Monte Carlo SS should have been a pretty sweet ride. After all, it's a V8-powered, rear-wheel-drive coupe. Unfortunately, the actual car is underwhelming at best and definitely overshadowed by the awesome Buick GNX it shared a platform with.

North Carolina tuning shop Detroit Speed has a solution for those shortcomings, though. It created a package that it says corrects the steering geometry, as well as revamping the front and rear suspension. And as Matt Farah found out in his most recent One Take, the handling package completely transforms the SS.

The car he drove still has the stock 305, so it's not exactly quick, but as he says, it actually handles. Not only does their modified SS ride surprisingly well, it also has great steering feel. Who would have guessed?

It sounds like a pretty awesome setup to us, especially if you go a step further and do an LS swap. Now that would be an awesome sleeper.
