Between 1990 and 2005, Opel won the VLN championship seven times, one more than BMW. But what is VLN, you may ask? It's a ten-race endurance series held on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, and your gateway to the Nürburgring 24 Hours as a low-budget driver. The reason you see all those Renault Clios and Opel Astras overtaken by GT3 cars is their experience gained through VLN, which stands for Veranstaltergemeinschaft Langstreckenpokal Nürburgring. You're welcome.

In 1995, a BMW M3 driven by Johannes Scheid and Hans Widmann managed to beat all the Astra GSi 16Vs, but the following two seasons, Opel's hatchback was unbeatable.
