So, you need to get a holiday gift for your car collector uncle this year. Only problem is, he's already got a massive collection with every classic you can think of. What to do? Well, luckily for you, RM Sotheby's is auctioning off a car that he doesn't have. It's a one-off 1960s Maserati prototype, and we think he'll love it.

Back in 1967, Maserati commissioned three design companies-Frua, Bertone, and Vignale-to each create a body for a two-door four seater based on the Quattroporte sedan chassis, called the Mexico. The car you see here is the stunning Frua example. It was the first ever completed Mexico chassis, and carried Maserati's first 4.7-liter V8 production engine.

In the end, Maserati chose Vignale's example as the production Mexico's design, leaving the Frua car as a one-of-one.

Strangely, at some point in its life, it had a later, smaller 4.2-liter Mexico V8 swapped in. It was then shipped out to the United States where it would change hands multiple times, receiving a cosmetic and mechanical restoration before finally coming up to auction.

It will be presented as part of RM Sotheby's Arizona event on January 19th. If your uncle needs a one-off in his collection, this might be the perfect stocking stuffer.
