The Only Two Volkswagen Corrado Shooting Brakes Ever Made Are for Sale

From Road & Track

Volkswagen isn't known for small production runs and limited-run special editions, so this Corrado shooting brake is quite unusual. Only two were built in 1990 based on the Corrado G60, and somehow, both are for sale for $50,000 each at a Long Island dealer. If you want to turn heads at your local water-cooled Volkswagen meet up, you couldn't do better than this.

The two largely similar cars are available for LuxSport Motor Group in New Hyde Park, New York. According to Motor1, the two so-called Corrado Magnums were built by German company Marold Automobil as prototypes for an eventual limited-production Corrado shooting brake. The idea was scrapped, so only two Corrado shooting brakes were made.

Even though these cars weren't intended for use in the U.S.-they're over 25 years old-you shouldn't have any trouble registering them. Each comes equipped with the Corrado G60's 160-hp 1.8-liter inline-four and a five-speed manual. It's one of the best drivetrains ever fit to a Volkswagen, and that it's wrapped in a gorgeous, practical longroof body makes it all the better.

It appears the only major differences between the two Corrado Magnums are the interior trimmings and the wheels: One has a set of Borbet five-spoke wheels, the other a set of Borbet basketweave wheels. LuxSport wants $50,000 for each, so presumably their condition is similar, too.

The Corrado shooting brake was way too niche a car for Volkswagen to put into production, but we can't help but wish it did. The standard Corrado's mix of style, practicality, and performance is a winning combination, and the shooting brake improves practicality significantly.
