This All-Original Ferrari 308 GTS is Still Fun 40 Years Later

From Road & Track

These days, pretty much any old Ferrari is an investment car. Buy one, and watch the value climb and climb. The 308 falls comfortably into that category, but it wasn't always that way. For years, prices remained stagnant and people put serious miles on them. This GTS model, however, was kept nice and original, clocking in just 4800 miles since rolling off the factory line.

The 308 GTS was powered by a carbureted, transversely mid-mounted 2.9-liter V8 engine making 237 horsepower, along with a removable targa-top roof. It had a curb weight around 2800 pounds, and could reach a top speed of 159 mph. Nowadays these numbers are nothing special, but back in the day, this prancing horse was the real deal.

This particular model is painted in a classic Ferrari red, and has brand new tires to replace the 40-year-old original rubber. Other than that, it's all original: Engine, paint, interior, all untouched from new.

Matt Farah of The Smoking Tire got the chance to leap back in time and experience the 308 on some twisty canyon roads, and finds while the car certainly isn't fast, it's able to give the driver a sense of connection, thanks in part to the gated shifter and unassisted steering.

We wouldn't expect anything less from a classic Ferrari.
