You Can Own This Ultra-Obscure '90s Supercar

Not many people remember the original Lister Storm. Built by renowned racing firm Lister in the early 1990s, it famously uses a 7.0-liter Jaguar V12 developed from the Daytona-winning XJR-9. Only four examples were built, and just three remain today. One of them is for sale. You should buy it.

The road-going Storm is based off the race car of the same name, fielded by Lister in the FIA GT Championship, which included the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the 24 Hours of Daytona, and the Sebring 12-Hour. It was largely unsuccessful on-track, failing to finish many of its races due to mechanical failures. Thanks to its incredibly high price point, only four road-legal Storms were produced before Lister stopped production.

Of course, just because Lister couldn't sell many Storms doesn't mean the car was slow. That 7.0-liter V12 made over 550 horsepower, capable of propelling the car to an astounding 211 mph. The body structure is made of aluminum with carbon-kevlar bumpers, making it incredibly light. The disc brakes are Brembo units, hidden behind 18-inch alloy wheels.

Considering the collectability, this Storm has seen a fair bit of miles-30,966 to be exact. It's only had two owners since new, and appears in near perfect condition. Historics at Brooklands in England estimates the car will sell anywhere from £145,000 - £165,000 (around $195,000 - $222,000) at its upcoming May 19th auction.

Even if you miss out on this Storm, don't worry-Lister's owner, Lawrence Whittaker, recently announced plans to build a new Storm, dubbed the Storm II, as a replacement for the forgotten 1990s supercar. It's unclear, however, when (or if) the Storm II will actually be built. It sure does look cool, though.
