The People in Japan that Race Dodge Vans Are the World's Finest People

From Road & Track

As far as obscure car subcultures go, Dodge vans racing in Japan has got to be near the top of the list. This group of motorcycle racers have come together to modify and race their Dodge B-Series vans, and it's pretty wild.

Youtuber Alexi from the noriyaro channel went to an event to capture the insanity that is Dodge van racing and drifting. He discovers that many of these vans serve a dual purpose, bringing the racing bikes to and from the track, while also being flogged around the racecourse themselves for a few laps.

Some vans are more modified than others, though. The faster Dodges have their interiors stripped out and their windows removed, all for the sake of setting a better time. In a van.

Others though, are set up to drift. Being rear-wheel-drive, V8 vehicles, theoretically they should have no problem getting sideways around a corner. Unless, of course, you consider all of the weight being thrown around. Because, you know, it's a van. Extensive suspension mods, as well as some admittedly great-looking wheels and tires are needed to actually set these things up to have fun.

Whatever the reason behind doing this to a van, the result is crazy to watch. Seeing old Dodge B-Series work vans drifting around a race track will make even the biggest 240sx snob scour Craigslist for one to start modifying.
