We'd be happy to drive the Chevy Volt even without its future-friendly hybrid system. It handles itself confidently on the road in a class where some cars are actively not fun to drive, and we're glad Chevrolet didn't choose to chalk up a bad driving experience to the cost of hybrid technology.

What's New for 2019?

The Volt has the same exceptional handling and seamless hybrid system as in 2018, but its regenerative braking system is updated for increased deceleration. The technology uses regenerative braking to recapture kinetic energy, and it now slows the vehicle even more quickly when using the steering-wheel-mounted paddle or driving in Low mode. This technique is called one-pedal driving and is common on hybrid vehicles.
