The Peugeot 9X8 Le Mans racer has been running in the FIA World Endurance Championship without a rear wing since 2022. While the resulting car has looked great, Peugeot's prototype has been far from competitive: Between two cars, the 9X8 program has just one podium all season. That means the brand may be ready to make major revisions this offseason, ones that will reportedly involve a more conventional aerodynamic setup. In other words, Peugeot is putting a wing on its wingless racer.

According to a report from DailySportsCar, the brand has had discussions with both of the World Endurance Championship's sanctioning bodies about how it can implement major revisions to its factory racer in the middle of its five-year homologation cycle. The resulting car is expected to be a substantial evolution from the current 9X8, one that keeps the same core chassis but radically alters the aerodynamic concept. The 9X8 evolution would test for the first time in December before racing in 2024.
