There’s an old saying in baseball that you can’t tell the players without a scorecard.

That’s somewhat the case when it comes to looking at the 2024 IndyCar driver/car lineup. During the six-month off-season, several drivers will have moved to other teams, while several others failed to have their contracts renewed and were made free agents (with several not racing in IndyCar in 2024)

All told, there are five new drivers in the series—all rookies, obviously—and four driver changes, where drivers have moved from one team to another. And as of this writing, there are 26 drivers listed as “full-time” pilots in the series for the upcoming season.

With the new faces and old faces in new places, this should be one of the strongest seasons IndyCar has had talent-wise in many years.

Two things to note before we get into who’s who and who’s where for 2024:

• Chip Ganassi Racing will field a series-high five teams this season, up from his former high of four teams. Obviously, when one of your drivers wins the IndyCar championship twice in three years, team owners get a lot of money as well, which likely at least partly explains Ganassi’s expansion program from four to five teams this season.

• On the flip side, Andretti Global has scaled back from four to three cars, not renewing the contract of Devlin DeFrancesco (who has not been picked up by any IndyCar team yet).

Now, let’s get going and look at our scorecard:
