The Toyota 2JZ is the perfect engine for those looking to swap something turbocharged and reliable into their cars. But we never expected someone to drop a 2JZ into a Polaris Slingshot. The result is pretty damn interesting.

The Slingshot is a three-wheeled vehicle with two in the front and a single, powered wheel out back. In stock form, they are powered by a 2.4-liter General Motors Ecotec inline-four making 173 horsepower. It's attached to an Aisin-based five-speed manual transmission. Scott Riley, the builder of this Slingshot, chose the 2JZ instead of something like an LS V-8 because of its compatibility with the Slingshot's factory gearbox.

Riley told Engine Swap Depot he sourced an engine from a Lexus IS300 with 200,000 miles on the clock. He then enlisted his father, an engine builder, to help refresh the internals, adding new valve springs, JE Pistons, Eagle rods, and a 66-mm BorgWarner turbocharger. It's controlled by an AEM Infinity ECU, sending info to an AEM Carbon 5 aftermarket gauge cluster. (The factory item wasn't compatible with the 2JZ.)

Riley says the engine makes 400 horsepower to the wheel, and plans on pushing that number to 500-plus in the coming months. There's also a custom air suspension setup with its own ride control kit and two air tanks mounted next to the driveshaft.

The car looks mean, and we're sure it's a riot to drive. We're curious to see just how much further Riley can push the platform.
