From Road & Track

The last generation Boxster and Cayman marked the first time Porsche offered its performance-oriented "GTS" trim on any of its mid-engine road cars. It seems to have worked out the first time around, because Porsche's just done it again, and revealed the 2018 718 Boxster and Cayman GTS.

The GTS treatment works pretty much the same way with every car in Porsche's lineup. Take the S model (whether it be 911 Carrera, Macan, Cayenne, Panamera, or in this case, the 718 Boxster and Cayman), and make a handful of its desirable performance options standard. In this case, 718 GTS models come standard with adaptive dampers, Porsche's Sport Chrono package, torque vectoring, a limited-slip differential, a sports exhaust system, and black-painted 20-inch Carrera S wheels.

The 718 Boxster and Cayman GTS share their 2.5-liter flat-fours with the 718 S models, but a new intake plenum and revised turbo bring a 15-hp boost, with 365 hp on tap. Torque increases to 317 lb-ft if you option the seven-speed PDK transmission, but it remains at 309 lb-ft if you stick with the standard six-speed manual.

With PDK equipped, Porsche estimates both the 718 Boxster and Cayman GTS to reach 60 mph in just 3.9 seconds - a tenth faster than the 718 S models. Top speed is 180 mph.

GTS models also get Porsche's Sport Design package, black badging on the rear decklid and doors, tinted taillights, and black exhaust tips. Inside, the seats, steering wheel, door armrests, and center console are covered in Alcantara. Porsche's "Track Precision App" is also standard, and allows the driver to record and analyze driving data on their smartphone.

Pricing for the 718 GTS starts at $80,850 for the Cayman, and $82,950 for the Boxster, including a $1050 destination charge. Deliveries are expected to begin March 2018.
