As much as we'd like to believe that naturally aspirated engines are still king, it's hard to argue with the numbers turbocharged motors can generate. The latest supporting evidence comes to us from the Nurburgring, where German publication Sport Auto has set a 7:24 lap time in the new twin-turbo 911 Carrera GTS. That's really, really quick.

For reference, the recently replaced 991.1-generation 911 GT3-the one that was PDK only-was able to manage a 7:25 Nordschleife lap. It may not be much of a difference, but remember, Porsche's GT cars are much more track-ready than its mid-range GTS models.

That means with less aero, more weight, weaker brakes, and less tire, the GTS was still able to beat out its previous-generation motorsport-derived sibling. Largely thanks to a couple of turbos.

It should be noted that the current GT3, thanks to its new 500-horsepower 4.0-liter engine and significantly modified aerodynamics, managed to pull off the same lap in 7:12-considerably faster than the GTS.
