Who doesn't love Pixar's Cars? It's a cultural touchstone that bridges generations and reaches far more than just car enthusiasts. The beloved series produced a number of memorable characters, including protagonist Sally Carrera, a 996-generation Porsche 911, who, along with her fellow townspeople of Radiator Springs, teaches hotshot racer Lightning McQueen a number of valuable lessons.

Earlier this year, Porsche and Pixar announced a partnership to bring Sally Carrera to life. This is the result, the 911 Sally Special, a one-off created by the folks behind the film—notably director Jay Ward, and Bob Pauley, Sally Carrera's original designer—and Porsche's Sonderwunsch (special wishes) department.

"The 911 Sally Special has been so much fun to create and is truly a first for us and for Porsche," said Ward in a statement. "We decided early on that we wanted to make a drivable 911, inspired by, but not a direct copy of Sally Carrera. After all, she loved to drive—and this helped guide us. If Sally Carrera was built today in life-size, for the road, what would she look like?"

Sonderwunsch specializes in customization, and with inspiration from Pixar, it created a number of new components for the Sally Special, perhaps most notably a modern reinterpretation of the iconic 996 Turbo Twist wheels. The color is a new formulation naturally called Sally Blue Metallic, and it's applied to not just the bodywork, but most of the exterior trim. It's also used as an accent inside. Sally Carrera's pinstripe tattoo was recreated here too.

"This was one of the most intense, emotional and detailed Sonderwunsch projects our team has ever worked on," said Boris Apenbrink, head of Sonderwunsch, in a statement. He noted that much of the custom trim for this car was made by hand. One also imagines making custom wheels and trim pieces for a car like this was incredibly expensive, too.

The Sally Special is based on a rear-drive, manual-transmission 911 Carrera GTS, which means it should be a hoot to drive. Though it's easy to imagine the owner not taking it out on the road, since this is a true one-off.

RM Sotheby's will auction off the Sally Special on Saturday the 20th at its Monterey event, with proceeds going to two charities, educational organization Girls Inc., and USA for UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, which is supporting people displaced by the war in Ukraine. Included with the car is a second set of wheels and tires intended for track use, a custom Porsche Design watch, and a book detailing the car's development.
