To access the Porsche Carrera GT's motor, all you had to do was pop open the engine lid. In the 918 Spyder, things are a little bit different. Essentially, all of the rear bodywork has to be removed, as well as the exhaust system. It's a view of the 918 we never get to see, which is why this picture from Redditor usbrooks is so great.

According to usbrooks, this 918 was in for spark plug replacement and a few other small fixes. Amazingly, the 918's 4.6-liter V8 is still in the car in this picture–it's just mounted so low in the chassis that you can't really see it from this angle. The 918's engine is so low, Porsche had to mount its seven-speed PDK gearbox upside down to make it all work.

You can see parts of the exhaust manifold, but there's towels zip tied over them to keep dirt and dust away. The rest of the exhaust system, which typically sits on top of the V8 as shown above, has been removed.

As for chassis components, you can see here is the 918's serious-looking suspension hardware and its rear-wheel steering system. Be sure to check out the full-resolution image for neat engineering details.

The 918, with its hybrid drivetrain, carbon chassis, and all-wheel drive system is a packaging marvel. Seeing it with its bodywork removed shows the amazing complexity of this machine.
