Yahoo Autos Porsche 919 Evo and 956C Will Lap the Nurburgring
As a part of the upcoming Nurburgring 24-Hour race festivities in May, Porsche has announced it will bring the upgraded 919 Evo Le Mans race car to the track for a demonstration lap just before the green flag drops. It will be joined by a Porsche 956C, the car that still holds the overall lap record on the Nordschleife.
This will be the 919 Evo's first public appearance since it broke the lap record at Spa Francorchamps in April. It set a time of 1:41.77, beating Lewis Hamilton's pole-setting F1 car lap. The car will be driven by Porsche Works driver Timo Bernhard, a two-time WEC champion and five-time Nurburgring 24-Hour winner.
Though we'd like to see it happen, chances are the 919 Evo won't be going for a lap record-it is just a demonstration lap, after all.
The vintage 956C will be piloted by none other than two-time Le Mans winner Hans-Joachim Stuck, son of legendary driver Hans Stuck. Thanks to ground-effect technology, the car, at the hands of Stefan Bellof, set the overall lap record of 6:11.13 on the Nordschleife in 1983-a lap time that has yet to be broken, and probably never will be.
The demonstration lap will happen on May 12th, just before the 24-Hour race begins.
