Adaptive suspension; Sequential turbos; Adjustable ride height; Six-speed gearbox; Tire-pressure monitoring. All of those features appeared on the 1988 Porsche 959, a car that, amazingly, descended from the then 25-year-old 911. The 959 is late-1980s Porsche in a nutshell: Brilliant, bleeding-edge engineering applied to ancient designs.
Our UK friends at EVO got their hands on a 1988 Komfort-spec example that's being auctioned later this month at RM Sotheby's Monaco auction. It's a car that feels more like a modern 911 Turbo than anything else of the era.
EVO's Nick Trott says the 959 was not only the supercar of the future but the car of the future. Certainly, it gave the world a glimpse of where Porsche was headed.
