From Road & Track

Air-cooled Porsche 911s exist between two extremes of automotive culture–some like to keep them as historically accurate as possible, while others use them as a platform to execute their own vision. On one side, the prices of perfect vintage examples have risen astronomically, while resto-modded examples are now in vogue. Let's focus on the latter.

In a way, old 911s are tuner cars. No, you're not going to see them modded like Toyota Supra, but many owners have taken to modifying air-cooled 911s significantly, creating an expression of themselves, not unlike what other tuners do.

In its latest video, Petrolicious profiles Hans-Michael Gerischer, the owner of this 964 Turbo, who's modified the car over two decades. Even though their are ostensibly better 911s in existence, Gerischer refuses to sell.

"It's just simply my car, end of story," he says, reflecting a tuner's attitude.

In a way, an old 911 is a perfect car for modifying, if you can stomach the increasingly high barrier of entry. There's a huge history to draw from in creating your perfect 911, so the possibilities are endless.
