This Porsche 997 Slantnose Conversion Is All Sorts of Great

From Road & Track

After the 996-generation 911 drew criticism for its unattractive design and subpar interior, Porsche came back with a revised version-the 997. The new 911 offered a nicer cabin and much more attractive styling. What it didn't offer, however, was a slantnose version. And while we didn't know it needed that option until now, this 911 IDL Design did for SEMA shows just how cool a slantnose 997 can be.

If you're not familiar with the slantnose 911, it was first offered as a special-order option on the 930-generation 911. Only a few were ever built, but the slantnose 911 became an instant classic.

And while it's definitely not something we expected to see, we have to admit the 997 looks great with this widebody and slantnose conversion. Interestingly, the slantnose 997 was designed by none other than Kei Miura, the man behind Rocket Bunny. It also appears you can buy the kit for yourself from a company called Old & New Japan. Very little information is available on the website, but the price listed converts to about $15,000.

What isn't clear is what all is included. The SEMA press release lists everything from a carbon fiber roof to carbon fiber seats, a full cage, and an air suspension. We could live without the carbon fiber, but considering how low it sits, that air suspension will be a necessity to get over speed bumps. Or cigarette butts.

Still, this is one seriously cool car. It might not save you any money over simply buying a slantnose 930, but it is a great way to dress up a 997 with a little extra style.
