  • Porsche revealed its latest limited-edition special last night at Rennsport Reunion 7, a GT3-based car with more power, wild colors, and a million-dollar price tag.

  • The car's engine makes 611 hp, up from 557 hp in the standard GT3.

  • Look for deliveries to start midway through 2024. Sorry folks, it's not street-legal.

Last night at Rennsport Reunion 7, Porsche unveiled a new car, dedicated to the proposition that having fun on a track doesn't mean you have to fit into the rules of any established racing category.

The 911 GT3 R rennsport may be based on the new 911 GT3 R of the current 992 generation, but it takes off from there, in several different directions, and when you add them all up, they don't fit into any racing class.

So, either you gather all 77 owners of the new car and start your own class (and wouldn't that be fun?) or you just keep it as your own personal race car and run it whenever you can talk your way onto a track.

That may be just fine. For the record, the 911 GT3 R rennsport can't registered for street driving, either.

The 911 GT3 R rennsport is powered by a naturally aspirated 4.2-liter flat-six that peaks at 611 hp and revs to 9400 rpm. It can do that because there are no race organizer rules saying it can't. The GT3 R engine it's based on makes "only" 557 hp. The new car sports unique pistons and camshafts to achieve those numbers.

Power is routed through a six-speed transmission shifted via paddles on the steering wheel. The top three gears correspond to the ratios used on the Daytona banking, meaning the GT3 R rennsport in sixth gear at 9000 rpm tops out 12 mph faster than the GT3 race car.

The chassis is also from the GT3, with double wishbones in front and a multi-link setup in the rear. The car rolls on bespoke Michelin tires designed and manufactured just for the GT3 R rennsport. The Michelins are wrapped around 18-inch BBS wheels.

The exterior was designed by Grant Larson and Thorsten Klein from Style Porsche.
