Prepare to witness the triumphant return of a racing legend as the Factory Porsche RS Spyder LMP2 class prototype takes center stage at the upcoming Rennsport Reunion. This exceptional vehicle, one of only 17 RS Spyders produced between 2005 and 2008, has been meticulously restored by Virtuoso Performance, ensuring its place as a true gem in the world of motorsport history.

Originally developed in collaboration with Team Penske, the Porsche RS Spyder holds its own among the legendary Porsche racing lineage that includes the 550 Spyder, 904 Carrera GTS, and Carrera 6. With multiple overall victories, class championships, and a remarkable 1-2 overall victory against LMP1 class competitors at the 2008 12 Hours of Sebring, the RS Spyder solidified Porsche's reputation as a force to be reckoned with in motorsport, even in lower classes.

In 2007, Dyson Racing, a prominent ALMS team based in Poughkeepsie, New York, joined the ranks of RS Spyder owners, fielding two of these cutting-edge prototypes. Having previously achieved success with multiple Porsche 962s in the IMSA-GTP class during the late 1980s, Dyson Racing was no stranger to top-level racing with Porsche.

Chassis number 9R6-705, a 2007 RS Spyder, played a pivotal role in Dyson Racing's successful 2007 season. Piloted by Guy Smith and Chris Dyson, it consistently performed well, securing a podium finish at the prestigious Petit Le Mans and contributing to Dyson Racing's second-place finish in the LMP2 team class championship.

The following year, in 2008, chassis number 705 underwent thorough updates in preparation for the ALMS racing season. Retaining its iconic blue and white livery, it continued to impress with podium finishes at events such as the 12 Hours of Sebring and the St. Petersburg Grand Prix. Notably, the 2008 season was marked by a remarkable feat of resilience, as the car suffered significant damage during a race at Lime Rock Park. However, thanks to the dedication of the Dyson Racing team and support from Porsche, the car was rebuilt within a single day, showcasing the determination and teamwork that defined the Dyson Racing spirit.

After the conclusion of the 2008 ALMS season, chassis number 705 returned to Porsche in Germany, where it resided in the Porsche Museum before being utilized for training purposes related to the development of the Porsche 919 Hybrid LMP1 program. In 2013, the car was acquired by its current owner, who entrusted Virtuoso Performance with its comprehensive restoration. Over a span of two years, the Virtuoso team meticulously disassembled and rebuilt the car to its original, as-raced condition, with the guidance and support of Porsche Motorsport North America.

Following its restoration, chassis number 705 made a stunning appearance at Porsche Rennsport Reunion VI in 2018, where it performed admirably and completed every session flawlessly. It is with great anticipation that this RS Spyder, with its rich racing history and exceptional restoration, is set to participate in Rennsport Reunion 7, pending driver qualification.

The restoration process, documented through detailed images, showcases the dedication and precision that went into reviving this racing icon. Accompanying the car are records of gearing, set-up sheets, aero settings, and transponder records that chronicle every lap during its time with the Dyson Racing team.

Expertly restored and race-ready, this Factory Porsche RS Spyder LMP2 prototype exemplifies the perfect balance between a historic racing car and a thrilling modern driving experience. Its presence at Rennsport Reunion promises to captivate motorsport enthusiasts and evoke a sense of nostalgia for the glory days of Porsche racing.

Prepare to witness the rebirth of a legend as the Factory Porsche RS Spyder LMP2 prototype takes to the track once again, embodying the spirit of Porsche's racing heritage and the pursuit of automotive excellence.
