Yahoo Autos Porsche Says These Are the Best Wings Porsche Has Ever Made
Ever since the discovery of aerodynamic downforce in motor racing, car makers have been striving to use air to their advantage. Wings, splitters, diffusers, and scoops help cars stick to the road and maintain traction, while improving efficiency. Porsche's history is full of motorsport, so it stacked up five of its most famous aerodynamic designs for us to see.
Two of Porsche's modern offerings made the list, and it's hard not to see why. The Cayman GT4 is a favorite among hardcore enthusiasts everywhere, and the addition of a GT rear wing rounds out its design nicely. The Panamera Turbo is the newest car in the German automaker's lineup, and its deployable fold-out style spoiler helps keep it stuck to the ground at high speeds.
Additionally, Porsche threw in some of its most popular old-school rear-winged road cars. The 911 Carrera RS 2.7 featured its signature ducktail spoiler while the 959 had its unique blended plank design that flowed into the body.
Lastly comes one of Porsche's fastest race cars, the 935. Based on the 911 of the time, it was almost unrecognizable from the road car thanks to its aero-efficient body panels and huge overhangs. Its rear wing was extremely light (perfect for racing), and was made entirely of fiberglass.
