After months of spy shots and rumors, Mercedes-Benz has finally released an official video of the 2021 Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series on YouTube. The car, leaked earlier today on Instagram, sports significant body modifications over the standard GT, and will likely be the most powerful AMG GT Mercedes plans to build.
Some of the most easily identifiable changes can be spotted on the front end. The bumper, elongated for more efficient aerodynamics and given a bigger grille opening, looks like it came directly off an AMG GT3 race car. There's a fat splitter attached to the bottom, paired with canards on either side. Moving further back, we're able to see wheel arch vents on the top of either fender—a common feature seen on race cars to alleviate wheel well pressure. The two-tone hood has a middle scoop and a handful of vents not seen on the normal GT.
Towards the rear, the car is sporting some aggressively mounted side skirts and a gigantic GT3-style wing. The bumper seems to have also been stretched to accommodate bigger venting on either end, and comes paired with a set of quad-exit exhaust pipes.
We've seen this car testing on the Nürburgring for the past year or so, but Mercedes has remained silent on what sort of powertrain it plans to use. No variant of the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 used in the GT makes over 600 horsepower, but considering the powertrain makes well north of that in the GT 63 S four-door, we're betting that's the direction the company will take it. Though, considering how much different this car sounds compared to other GTs, it could be something totally different. A Mercedes spokesperson told Road & Track via email a full unveiling, with full specifications and more pictures, will happen sometime next week.
