The Problems With Carfax

From Road & Track

When you're trying to decide whether or not to purchase a particular used car, a Carfax report can be extremely useful. Since Carfax tracks vehicle histories, you can look up how many owners a certain car has had, whether or not it's been in any accidents, how often it's been serviced at the dealer, and whether there are any odometer discrepancies.

But while Carfax can be useful, it's not perfect. And if you don't understand its limitations, it could cost you. In this podcast, consumer protection lawyer and Road & Track columnist Steve Lehto goes through all the problems with Carfax and other companies like it. Even if you're not in the market for a used car right now, this is important to know.
