James Hinchcliffe's failure to qualify for the 2018 Indy 500 has been the biggest story to come from the month of May, but he isn't the first high-profile driver to miss the show.

Three-time CART IndyCar Series title winner Bobby Rahal, who entered the 1993 Indy 500 as the defending series champion, saw his world collapse as his Rahal-Hogan Racing entry was too slow to earn a spot in the field of 33 starters.

On the 25th anniversary of Rahal's nightmare scenario, he recounts his worst day at Indy and how the aftermath that followed was, to his surprise, anything but expected.
