A 1966 Shelby 427 Cobra Roadster, one of only 260 factory-built coil spring street-trim Cobras, is set to be a star attraction at the Kissimmee 2024 auction. Known as CSX3283, this exquisite Shelby Cobra boasts a rich history and a meticulous restoration, making it a prized addition for any collector.

Dispatched from England in July 1966 and initially finished in Acrylic Green, CSX3283 was billed to Shelby American. This rare roadster was one of only 56 produced in this color. It later found its way to Hi-Performance Motors in El Segundo, California, as per Shelby invoice no. 001175 dated October 17, 1966.

The roadster's first owner, Mr. William J. Huber of Bellflower, California, took delivery on November 15, 1966. He soon modified the car, replacing the original Ford carburetor with a Holley 715 CFM 4-barrel and installing a Holman-Moody-built 427 CI side oiler V-8 engine in April 1967. The car also underwent aesthetic changes under Huber's ownership, including a repaint in dark blue with a white stripe, the addition of a roll bar and hood scoop, and an update to magnesium Halibrand wheels.

Over the years, CSX3283 changed hands several times, each owner adding to its storied history. Its most significant chapter began with a no-expense-spared restoration. During this process, the original 427 block was replaced, retaining the Holman-Moody components. The gearbox, suspension, and brakes were also overhauled. The car was refinished in its original green hue over aluminum bodywork by Colour Restoration in Loveland, Colorado, restoring its original splendor.

Accompanying this Shelby 427 Cobra are the original conditional sales contract, Holman-Moody receipts and engine manual, and an AC Cars Ltd. Heritage Certificate. Presenting in deep green with the correct Pete Brock-designed Sunburst aluminum wheels and sans modifications like the hood scoop and side pipes, this Cobra returns to its authentic, original configuration.

As CSX3283 makes its way to the Kissimmee 2024 auction, it not only represents an exceptional piece of automotive history but also a testament to the enduring legacy of Shelby's engineering and design prowess.
