With a starting price of $38,295, the redesigned 2019 Acura RDX has a $1300 greater cost of entry than its predecessor. However, included in that tab are newly standard active-safety features such as automated emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping assist. Adding these items to the previous RDX required shelling out more than $1300, which, Acura argues, makes the new RDX no more expensive than the outgoing model.

Moving up from the base version, the RDX with Technology package is an additional $3200, at $41,495. Another $3000 gets you into the sport-themed A-Spec trim level, with 20-inch wheels wrapped in low-profile rubber, black exterior trim, and a leather and microsuede interior in black or red. At the top of the pyramid is the RDX with Advance package, for $46,395. For all trim levels, Acura’s torque-vectoring Super Handling All-Wheel Drive is a $2000 option.

Marking the third generation of Acura’s entry-level crossover SUV, the 2019 RDX ditches the previous V-6 engine and six-speed automatic transmission for a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four and a 10-speed self-shifting gearbox. With 272 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque, the new four-cylinder is down seven horses from the old V-6, but torque is up by 28 lb-ft.

With two fewer cylinders to feed, the all-new RDX gets slightly better gas mileage than the outgoing model. Fuel economy for the front-wheel-drive RDX rises from 20 mpg in the city to 22 mpg. The highway estimate holds steady at 28 mpg, although opting for the A-Spec model lowers the highway rating to 27 mpg, according to the EPA.

With all-wheel drive, EPA ratings are 21 mpg city and 27 mpg highway. Once again, the A-Spec package with all-wheel drive costs the RDX a single mpg on the highway, with a 26-mpg rating.

The all-new 2019 Acura RDX goes on sale at the beginning of June.
