Recall Roundup: Volkswagen Group Recalls One Quarter Million Audi, VW Vehicles in Three Separate Actions

Abstract:

During the past week, various automakers issued recalls, affecting a total of approximately 368,000 light vehicles. The recalls include vehicles made by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Ford Motor Co., General Motors (GM), Mazda, Porsche, and Volkswagen Group, from the 2007 through 2017 model years.

• During the past week, various automakers issued recalls, affecting a total of approximately 368,000 light vehicles. The recalls include vehicles made by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Ford Motor Co., General Motors (GM), Mazda, Porsche, and Volkswagen Group, from the 2007 through 2017 model years. • 2015-2016 Audi A3 Sedan, A3 Cabriolet; 2015-2016 Volkswagen Golf, Golf SportWagen; 2015-2016 Volkswagen GTI

  • Number of vehicles affected: 110,042

  • Issue: Volkswagen is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Volkswagen Golf, Golf SportWagen, GTI, Audi A3 sedan and A3 Cabriolet vehicles. Due to a problem with the suction pump inside the fuel tank, fuel may flow into the evaporative emissions (EVAP) system. As fuel accumulates in the EVAP system, it may leak out through the charcoal canister filter element. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.

  • Remedy: Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will replace the suction pump, free of charge. Parts are not currently available.

  • Timing: An interim notice will be sent to owners by early November and a second notice will be sent when parts are available. Volkswagen owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298, Audi owners may contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834.

• 2012-2013 Audi A6; 2012-2013 Audi A7

  • Number of vehicles affected: 28,249

  • Issue: The affected vehicles have a fuel hose in the engine compartment that may degrade and leak fuel. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.

  • Remedy: Audi will notify owners, and dealers will replace the under hood fuel pump and fuel hose, free of charge.

  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin in October 2016. Owners may contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834.

• 2007-2012 Audi Q5; 2007-2012 Audi Q7

  • Number of vehicles affected: 143,214

  • Date of manufacture: Recall affects 2009-2012 Audi Q5 and 2007-2012 Audi Q7 vehicles with gasoline engines.

  • Issue: The fuel cap flange on the affected vehicles may crack, allowing fuel to leak. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.

  • Remedy: Audi will notify owners, and dealers will clean the pump flange and install a butyl rubber band to protect the pump, free of charge. Parts are not currently available.

  • Timing: Interim notices will sent in early November 2016. A second notice will be sent when parts are available. Owners may contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834.

• 2016-2017 Chevrolet Express; 2016-2017 GMC Savana

  • Number of vehicles affected: 40

  • Date of manufacture: September 25, 2015, through August 22, 2016

  • Issue: The affected vehicles were manufactured without an inside rearview mirror and with a right-hand convex exterior review mirror.

  • Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will instal a right-hand flat rearview mirror, free of charge.

  • Timing: The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782.

• 2013-2017 Ford Focus

  • Number of vehicles affected: 64,038

  • Date of manufacture: February 14, 2012, through August 26, 2016

  • Issue: The hatchback of the affected vehicles may be unlatched with a single press of the interior latch release button. With only a single press needed, the driver may accidently unlatch the hatchback, increasing the risk of injury to any unsecured passengers in the back.

  • Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the Body Control Module with updated software, free of charge.

  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin November 14, 2016. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332.

• 2014 Ford Transit Connect Wagon

  • Number of vehicles affected: 887

  • Date of manufacture: October 4, 2013, through July 14, 2014

  • Issue: The Panoramic Fixed-Glass Vista roof may have an inadequate bond to the vehicle, possibly resulting in the panel separating from the vehicle.

  • Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will remove, clean, and reinstall the panoramic roof panel, free of charge.

  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin October 31, 2016. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332.

• 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee

  • Number of vehicles affected: 21

  • Date of manufacture: August 8, 2016, through August 16, 2016

  • Issue: In the affected vehicles, the rear tow hook bracket or tow eye bracket may be loose. If the tow bracket is loose, the bracket may detach from the vehicle while being it is being driven, possibly becoming a road hazard. If the bracket detaches during a vehicle recovery, there may be a loss of control of the towed vehicle.

  • Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will confirm both tow hook bracket bolts are properly tightened, free of charge.

  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin on November 6, 2016. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403.

• 2014-2016 Mazda 3

  • Number of vehicles affected: 17,484

  • Date of manufacture: January 4, 2014, through September 18, 2015

  • Issue: The fuel tank of the affected vehicles may have been improperly handled during manufacturing and, as a result, the welded attachment of the Inlet Check Valve (ICV) may fail and allow fuel to leak. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.

  • Remedy: Mazda will notify owners, and depending on the tank lot number, dealers will inspect the ICV weld, replacing the fuel tank, as necessary, free of charge.

  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin November 1, 2016. Owners may contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500.

  • Number of vehicles affected: 3,849

  • Date of manufacture: September 24, 2015, through October 16, 2015

  • Issue: During manufacturing, the fuel tanks for the affected vehicles may have deformed, resulting in a fuel leak from the recirculation pipe welded connection. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.

  • Remedy: Mazda will notify owners, and depending on the tank lot number, dealers will inspect the recirculation pipe weld, replacing the fuel tank, as necessary, free of charge.

  • Timing: The recall is expected to begin November 1, 2016. Owners may contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500.

• 2017 Porsche Macan, Macan S, Macan GTS, Macan Turbo

  • Number of vehicles affected: 243

  • Issue: In the affected vehicles, the anti-rollbar connecting links may move out of position allowing the vehicle to oversteer in certain driving conditions.

  • Remedy: Porsche will notify owners, and dealers will inspect, and as necessary, replace the front anti-rollbar links, free of charge.

  • Timing: The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Porsche customer service at 1-800-767-7243.
