New report adds another hang-up in Patriots-DeAndre Hopkins trade talk

Rumors of DeAndre Hopkins joining the New England Patriots have slowed down in the past week. Now, a new report is suggesting one particular reason why Hopkins may not come to New England.

ESPN’s Dan Graziano wrote a piece on Thursday, detailing why Hopkins to New England may not be feasible. In short, it has to do with the history between Hopkins and new Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien.

O’Brien and Hopkins worked together for six seasons. Hopkins was traded by O’Brien to the Arizona Cardinals in March 2020, and Hopkins revealed his frustration with O’Brien shortly thereafter.

Things have recently looked bleak on the Hopkins end for New England due to the Cardinals asking for a team to take on his high salary. Nevertheless, this report by Graziano adds a new wrinkle to the Hopkins sweepstakes.

Graziano wrote:

It sounds like the history between Hopkins and new Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien is an impediment to his landing in New England.
