The Lamborghini Urus and the Rolls-Royce Cullinan are the hottest new entries in the ultra-expensive SUV category that has been heating up the past couple of years. These two high-end vehicles take very different approaches: the Lamborghini is all about style and performance, while the Rolls is focused on comfort and luxury. It might seem ridiculous to pit them against each other, but in their limited segment they have no real competitors, so why not take a look at how their EPA fuel-economy numbers stack up?

With a top speed of 190 mph, Lamborghini claims its Urus is the fastest SUV in the world. Based on the Volkswagen Group's MLB Evo platform, the Urus is related to the Volkswagen Touareg, the Audi Q7, the Porsche Cayenne, and the Bentley Bentayga, but with its typically insane Lambo styling, it's easily the most aggressive SUV on the market. The Urus is powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 with 641 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque, and Lamborghini claims it will hit 62 mph in just 3.6 seconds. The EPA rates the Urus at 14 mpg combined, 12 mpg city, and 17 mpg highway; that might seem pretty abysmal, but it's a lot better than the 11 mpg combined, 9 mpg city, and 15 mpg highway that Lamborghini's Aventador SVJ supercar achieves.

Rolls-Royce's Cullinan, on the other hand, is limited to "just" 155 mph. Riding on the same platform as the Phantom sedan, the Cullinan shares that car's 563-hp twin-turbocharged 6.7-liter V-12. Even though the Cullinan is bigger than the Urus (nearly a foot longer, in fact), has four more cylinders, and is much heavier, it bests the Urus when it comes to gas mileage-barely. The Cullinan matches the Urus's combined and city figures of 12 mpg city and 14 mpg combined, but it achieves 20 mpg on the highway, which is 3 mpg more than the Lambo.

If you're really concerned about saving money on gas-or saving money, period-the Bentley Bentayga with V-8 is the super-lux SUV for you. At $167,725 to start, it's considerably less expensive than the Urus, which starts at just over $200,000, and the Cullinan, which will start at around $325,000. The Bentayga shares its basic V-8 engine with the Urus, but with 542 horses and 568 lb-ft, it isn't as much of a speed demon. Rated by the EPA at 17 mpg combined, 14 mpg city, and 23 mpg highway, the Bentayga handily beats both its Lamborghini sibling and its Rolls-Royce rival. But when it comes to ultra-luxury SUVs, somehow we doubt that the target buyers are basing purchase decisions on that.
